Pens pass hard. Duchene isn't enough of an upgrade over Brass to give up Maatta, and Pitt doesn't need Anderson.

You're kidding? Duchene and Brass are two complete different players.

Also, Maatta is terrible. He is one of those players who benefited from playing on a stack Pitts team. As soon as Maatta leaves pitts and joins a team like Ottawa, his play would get exposed.

From an Ottawa perspective, "Pass hard"

The last four seasons Duchene had 222 points to Brassards 203. Duchene had 44 points on the power play, Brass had 53. Whatever your feelings about Maatta are, and mine are decidedly mixed, Duchene won't bring a whole lot more than Brassard at the cost of what's been a Top 4 defenseman for the Pens. This trade would cost the Pens another d-man they can't afford to lose just to be a little bit better at a position they're already deep at, and for that alone its unrealistic.

You're looking at it wrong. Duchene is 4 year younger. Do you think there is going to be a 19 point difference between Duchene and Brassard in the next 4 years combine?

I see your point where Pitts values Defensemen more than Centers ATM.

The math doesn't work for the Pens keeping Brassard, so it definitely won't work keeping Duchene. They're both on expiring contracts, so their performance beyond June 2019 doesn't matter too much for this trade.

The whole concept was based on Pitts wanting a scoring #3 C.
Also on Murray's injuries&lack of a vet backup in goal.
Also on word that they want Brassard off their books, though I think he's better than Duc all round.
Desperate visions 2 save the Sens..-~
