Blake has a very limited cap space preventing him from doing this. Not that he doesn't have 'the nerve'.

*edit* Blake was willing to give up more than that for Patches. He's definitely got the nerve to do this.

Toffoli and Pearson add up to over $8M so there is room under the cap now and for a signing next year.

Granted Doughty gets $4M more but cap goes up and I wager one of Martinez or Muzzin is traded by the draft.

What do you think it would take? A 20 and 30 goal guy (when on a good team) two top-6 forwards for one and both on budget contracts with term. ‘Lumbus is not a Cap team.

the real issue is that columbus already has a lot of guys capable of doing 20 goals a game. That's how they were a good team before Loaf arrived. They didn't have that one guy but a whole lot of guys who collectively could get it done. That is still there.
They need someone who can take a game over. I don't think you get their attention with just adding quantity. Putting another quantity guy on a roaster full of quantity isn't going to push them to the next level.
My guess is you are looking at a top notch prospect and a 1st. That would be a starter for trade deadline, and I don't see why they would take any less.

Good info. Makes sense.

Problem I see with that ask; Players contract done at end of the season anyway so real easy for GMs to wait and see.

Tough to make hockey trades these days.

I don't think so. A first is a 50/50 stats wise of playing at least 400 games. So it's not like you are giving up a whole lot there. Especially if it's not a top 3-5 pick.

The prospect is neither here nor there. There are a half dozen at least in the league that are suppose to be these great players but what have they done.
Donato, Milano, Kyro, Sprong, the dude from edmonton who's name I need to look uptears of joy

Combined that have done squat really. But they are all A+ prospects/potential players.
I don't see that as a major ask.

Well, the way the Kings have full command of being in last place ... it wouldn’t be the 2019 1st round pick for sure. wink
