Description
The Jets made the playoffs in 2014-15, only to be swept by the Ducks. The next year they had to make the playoffs or else Cheveldayoff would make a big change. They didn't, he traded away Drew Stafford to the Avalanche to clear cap space. Then he made the bigger of the two deals by getting a number one centre to play on one of the top two lines with Scheifele centering the other, while also freeing up space for youngsters like Kyle Connor to play. After winning the chance to pick second in the 2016 NHL entry draft he used that pick to draft Patrik Laine and immediately inserted him into the top six. Once these moves were made Cheveldayoff signed Scheifele for six years at six million per year, and Trouba for five years at 4.5 million per year. He also re-signed Joel Armia among others. He then found a proven playoff performer in Dale Weise to fill the final spot in his bottom six.

I'm sure the Avs wouldn't want to give up 1st rounder, good chance a top 12 pick for Stafford. Geez he's a behind Wheeler, Little (when Little plays RW). A third string winger on a near last place team isn't getting a first.

What's all this love for Duchene? It's not like he has lead the Avs to the promised land. That's a real inexperienced LW.
