Toronto trade won’t work for cap and no way Toronto gives up that much for 2 years of term.

Attention LA fans, I appreciate that you are warming up to a rebuild. Its needed. I think its important though to temper your expectations. You aren't going to be able to trade your overprice depth players for 1st round picks. There are 2 roads you could go down here.

#1 Scorched earth

Most will disagree and many will send hate my way for saying this, but this is the best option for the Kings. Trade Kopitar, Brown, Kovalchuck, Quick, Doughty, everyone. If you aren't under 25 you are gone to the highest bidder. There is still a chance this plan could bring back major returns right now, but the longer you wait the less return you'll get. I'd even wager that soon you'll be hard pressed to trade someone like Brown of Kopitar as they continue to age and lose steps that are vital for success in the speed game we currently live in.

#2 Retool

In this model you move out some aging pieces that no longer are plans for the future. Guys like Muzzin, Martinez, Pearson, Toffoli, Clifford etc. Get whatever you can for them which will not be a lot. Expect several 3rd round picks and the odd 2nd rounder and B level prospects. While this will help with the current cap situation you have, it doesn't really address the situation you have which is an aging slow core that won't get better the older they get.

So what do you want Kings fans? Do you want to make some minor moves that won't bring a lot of useable assets back but gives you some cap flexibility? Or do you want to actually take a rebuild seriously and burn this to the ground and hopefully get back to being a powerhouse in a few seasons?

A very late 1st and a maybe B level spec? I'd say that's pretty reasonable. Would be in that range of what Patches got Montreal.
