Description

On Headline they talked about moving Marleau's contract to make everything fit . Assuming he will Waive his NMC to either retire or pursue his cup aspirations on another team shaving off 6 million will really help our team.

Brown should be easy to move and I believe certain Teams would be interested in Zaits. Although he is good on the pk he is not great in transition or at denying zone entries. I believe he can be replaced by a much cheaper player.

move out dead weight and keep the core. Keep in mind this is my Ideal cap casualties, it is very possible that Marleau doesn't waive his NMC and we have to trade Kappy, or not resign Gardiner.

You lose all credibility when you think Marleau just waives his NMC so you can make a better fantasy roster. He signed a NMC for reason....to win a Cup. If Zaitsev is as bad as you say, no team trades for him. Why is the 3rd/4th best RHD on Carolina so much on an improvement on what the Leafs have now.
But you last line is correct, "it is very possible that Marleau doesn't waive his NMC and we have to trade Kappy, or not resign Gardiner."

I don't know if Leafs fans watch Leafs games. Zaitsev has played great and Marleau is a mentor for the kids.

Just to add about Marleau. Yea I wish the Leafs didn't have his cap hit next year of 6.25m because that money could have been spent better. But he playing to or close to a 6.25m UFA contract , so it's not like his play/contract is an anchor for the Leafs.

Yea Gardiner and Hainsey are gone.....So it's Reilly, Dermot, Zaitsev, Ozhigakov.....and then who. Is it Rosen, Borgman, Sandin, Liljegren? Are they NHL ready? Hence the reason why a player like Nylander just might to be traded. For cap reasons and to add a veteran DMan, even if he's a relatively cheap one. Going to an interesting summer.

Zaits isn't horrible but being a good pker and playing the minutes he does i believe some teams will bite. If Garadi and Russell can get contracts teams still value that kind of defenseman. I think Zaits is of the same mould but is a bit better, so ya he can get traded. TVR isn't meant to be an improvement on Zaits, just a cheaper replacement
