Quoting: Phillthethrill
They get an absolute stud right hand shot that they need and they only lose 1 roster player. Definitely not stupid.
We dont need RHD, we maybe need a RD. Also our D core is 3rd in the league rn. We don't NEED a stud RHD. Plus Dumba is more offensive right? We have a Norris contender in Rielly who is an offensive stud. Dermott and Rielly can both pay RD, babs has been slowly transitioning to play them together (Dermott when finished developing will be a solid top-4 guy, he is already good, and physical too).
On the losing side: Kapanen has prven he can turn into a top 6 guy and play with Matthews well. Babs has already tried him on the Left, and it looks like we will transition him there (we need good LW).
Liljegren is projected to be a top pairing stud RD. Why would we trade him away?
This draft is expected to be deep, why would we trade the 1st?
It is fine value wise right now (for the Leafs anyway), but in terms of "team needs" its bad asset management.
And I said stupid in terms of cap.
