Oz played LD with Zaitzev in the KHL before we took Z. They were killing it. I moved him there so Liljegren could play. He can stay back on the right if they go with Sandin or Rosen and keep em in the minors.</div></div>
Let's just let Dubas sort it out

Either way, stupid trade in terms of cap.</div></div>
They get an absolute stud right hand shot that they need and they only lose 1 roster player. Definitely not stupid.

I hope we can get them for that. Babcock seems pretty keen on keeping guys on their natural side. In an interview he rang off a bunch of reasons why it's so important.

Babcock also likes to play left and right shot defenseman together. That's the reason PK and Letang were left off Olympic teams due to the logjam of righties. You've got Dermott and Igor on their wrong sides.

Ask a Wild fan if this is an over payment, they actually probably turn this down.

So a mutual termination agreement is possible. They would have to win a cup this year for that to happen, even then, Marleau loves to play and is close to Gordie Howe's 1767 games played record, this is highly unlikely unless they already have some under the table agreement. The way the contract is structured makes it seem like its plausible I guess.

Can't you read? In the first paragraph of the 35+ FAQ it says that a multi year contract counts against the cap whether the player is active or not. How are you even arguing this?

Babcock will not play left hand shot defensemen on the right side. Marner's, Johnsson's and Kaps deals are extremely team friendly and highly unlikely imo.

This is a fact that really can't be argued. Look at Crosby, sure he's still amazing but is he the dominant force he was at 26? Not really. All players age and decline its just a fact of life. Doughty will be surpassed by younger guys who are peaking and every year he'll take a step backwards. Time catches up to us all and if you have a 8 year deal paying you 11 mill a season that stars a few months before you turn 30, you are going to be a cap killer in the very near future.</div></div>
definitely would hurt in the later years, no doubt. That might be after 3 cups though! Anyway, will never happen regardless.

Right. So the scenario is basically impossible with old saggy bag Marleau's deal. Thanks for the comment

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MunkyCheez</b></div><div>This looks like a trade Brian Burke would make lol. Trading away young players and draft picks that will turn into future stars down the road. This is the kind of stuff that has haunted the Leafs for many many years. Doughty has a bad contract and is going to be on the decline soon so this deal is def is not worth it for them. Leafs are better off keeping Liljergen, Nylander and the draft picks to keep their program moving along. Liljegren will likely end up being a top end dman at some point while Nylander has an incredible skill set that could see him as an 80+ point player.</div></div>
Fair comparison, however I would argue the impact of Doughty over the guys Burke traded for is considerably greater.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>negative 4 stars from me. Where do I start?
1) Anaheim doesn't have the cap room to take on Nylander at $7M and Zaitsev at $4.5M even after sending back Manson and Ritchie. & you want the Leafs to give up the best player in the deal AND a 1st round pick as your description says. No.
2) Zaitsev has actually been good for the Leafs this year. I don't think he'll be a cap dump move like everyone thinks. So if you think the Leafs need a right handed, puck moving defensemen like Karlsson, they already have Zaitsev (No I'm not saying Zaitsev is as good as Karlsson, I'm saying he's already on the roster so you don't need to add anyone for that role). Karlsson is gonna be too expensive. He'll easily sign for at minimum $11M somewhere. Too much for the Leafs situation no matter how good he is and he's actually not the type of dman they need.
3) Matthews will probably be around $12-$12.5 even on a discount so there goes more cap room.
4) Why would the Leafs pay Lindell $6M to be a second pairing dman? Lindell isn't even worth $6M. So why would they give up a 1st and a 3rd for him through an offer sheet? And how could they if you already traded the 1st to Anaheim?
5) Marleau can't go on LTIR if he's not hurt. He'll more likely either be dealt after the Leafs pay his bonus and stay on his new team, or be bought out by that team and sign back in Toronto for cheap so he has his money and can come back for a cup run so that he actually plays on the team and can get his name on the cup like he actually wants (think like Brooks Orpik to Colorado then bought out and signed by Washington for cheap)
and last but not least and certainly the DUMBEST move you've mentioned
6) Robin Lehner on a 3 year deal at $2.1M annually to be a back up... are you nuts?
Punch yourself in the face. Actually watch hockey and know whats going on. None of this makes sense at all.</div></div>
Can't you read? Marleau IS hurt, assassins ran him over with a golf cart and ended his career!! So many potato brains on here. I know my description is a paragraph long which is likely more than you're capable of reading within an hour but try your best!

Valid criticisms, edited the first for a second, if you want Karlsson for the next 4 you have to take him for 7. The ducks will be have Perry on LTIR and would be losing Manson's salary, but yeah as with the Karlsson dream, losing the Zaitsev contract is a pipe dream as well.

Nylander trade
So you want Vancouver to give up a guy who is probably as good if not better than Nylander right now, arguably has a higher ceiling than nylander and is under is rookie deal for 3 years, for a guy who's unsigned and demanding more money than he's worth. Oh and add Tanev a second and a fifth rounder. Good trade
