The most that can be retained on a player is 50%. If Ottawa retains $750k, then MTL can only retain so that it makes 50% of his total cap hit.

Unfortunately! I think MTL can still find a way to get rid of his contract. If they retain 50% and take on a semi-bad contract back, they can make it happen. If not, they might buy him out after the season. He just hasn't been a fit with MTL and might make an impact somewhere else.

i think LAK and Phaneuf comes to mind. maybe retain 15% on KA and so it gives them a little cap relief

we need someone to knock guys out , our rookies are getting roughed up and i dont want Byron or Shaw fighting this year .

i know DP woulda knocked Del Zotto out for Roughing up Kotkanemi and thats worth the cap to me (plus he's a big hitter)

Peca's game is fine. He's a 3rd line Center. Needs to work on his faceoffs a tiny bit, but he's won a bout 50% of them, not bad for a guy in his first full year imho. I doubt the Washington trade would happen, but the rest Im fine with.
