More speed and skill

Created by: mmobley
Team: 2018-19 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 9, 2018
Published: Dec. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
ARI
  1. Ho-Sang, Joshua
Additional Details:
Ho-Sang brings some skill that might help have immediate impact for ARI, especially with current injuries. Low risk move that could have high rewards if Ho-Sang finds his game or is given opportunity to do so.
NYI
  1. Connauton, Kevin ($687 retained)
  2. Merkley, Nick
Additional Details:
Change of scenery for Ho-Sang. Connauton a solid 5-7 D, that gives NYI more depth on back end for long term part of season. Merkley is a 1st round pick and plays a similar game to Ho-Sang.
2.
TBL
  1. Pickard, Calvin
  2. Stepan, Derek ($1 retained)
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
TBL get a top end 2-3 center in Stepan w/ a good amount of playoff experience. ARI also takes on 25% of salary to help fit the contract into TBL Cap situation. Stepan is a few years older than Miller, but he gives serious depth down the middle. TBL might have the best 1-2-3 C's in the league with this move. Sacrifice youth for experience moving Miller, but Johnson has shown serious chemistry with Pointe and Kucherov and having Cirelli as their 4th line C makes for a very strong line up.

Pickard is included in the deal because Domingue has shown that he's not consistent enough to help the team in the post season. Pickard has shown that he can be a solid back up.

TBL has more use for Miller than they do another C.

Both trades are fair value. Could see Islanders doing that trade but the lightning dont need another center at all. Like Gofnut999 said they have a use for miller over another center.

Thanks for the replies.

I'd agree with both of you that TBL is pretty solid down the middle and probably don't need another C. My thoughts are directed towards the post season with this trade. TBL will have to make some discussions on signing their core RFA's for the 19-20 and 20-21 seasons. The team looks very focused and their record has been impressive so far, given their starting goalie has been out for nearly a month. The window to keep the majority of this team together is fairly small, so this might the year that they win the Cup. Killorn and a few other FWD's might be on the move after this season. It might be worth them moving Miller if it means winning the entire thing and I think having Stepan as their 3rd line C puts them closer to doing that.

What are your thoughts? Thanks again!
