I think we can get more for Jake. If Tatar got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Jake is worth much more IMO. Not sure Gauthier's value is anywhere near where he was drafted.

I think the thing devaluing Jake a lot is that contract.

If he were to hit FA today he would likely be in the exact ballpark of what he gets paid now.

He's definitely better but how many teams are prepared to take on 8.25M for a winger? Not many. Unless the team sends salary back or Philly retains, I think the value for Jake is diminished.

The value here is top notch considering there is no lottery protection. Carolina isn't making playoffs this year so...... im not sure how you'd turn this down frankly. Tatar's 1st was something like 30ish. This pick could be 10-15th and Philly would cut 8.25M from there cap......

Anyhoo, seeing as where Philly is right now, I would take Carolina up on that deal.

The Flyers don't really need the cap space as we should have plenty (unless Holmgren starts pulling the strings). I also don't think we want to trade a known in Jake for a mid round 1st, that will likely take 3-4 years to be ready, a 2nd (mid round) and Gauthier, a guy that hasn't shown anything. We have enough of those.

What would be a more reasonable futures package without taking salary back? Yeah the value would go up as much as the salary going back does. IMO. Its Holmgrens/Fletchers call at that point.

I personally wouldn't trade him for futures. Holmgren's goal is to compete now and trading one of our best players for futures doesn't do that. If they are going to trade Jake, it would likely be for a D man. Not sure many teams would want to do that though. I don't see Jake being moved.

Yeah of course, im solely going on the idea that he'd be moved for futures like shown in the above. I truthfully don't think any team is willing to take on Jake's contract without cap going back. Look at ROR for example, Buff had to take Berglund and Sobotka back for it to work. And that was for a #1 center, not a winger.

I agree cap would have to come back.
