Getting pietrangelo makes your D better, no question. But giving up the next 5+ years of willy, plus liljegren a 1st and a 2nd isnt worth it. This trade makes your team a little better this year, but long term it is a bad trade.

Gards is way better than simmonds. 0% chance you make that deal. Simmonds is a shadow of what he used to be, and no team should really give up any serious assets to get him. If he's traded, it's for just picks at the deadline. This trade is so lopsided it cancels out the benefit of getting pietrangelo this year, and makes your team worse.

If your goal was to make the D significantly better, why give up gards?

that's the least egregious trade in the group. 4th and 5th for a cheap NHL player isnt anything to argue about

you guys gave up a 3rd for Vatrano, this trade is fine. Just do it in the offseason.
