Ferland

Created by: LetsTalkNHL
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 9, 2019
Published: Jan. 9, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In his 31 thoughts, Elliotte Friedman said that it is likely that Carolina moves out Michael Ferland. He said the Penguins/Oilers are 2 teams that make sense. Ferland is better suited as a LW.
1. Guentzel is staying as the team's 1LW.
2. Simon has had a good year. In 35 games, he has 6 goals and 17 points, only 3 less points than Ferland, but 6 less goals, in the same amount of games. Simon is cheap, and Ferland will require a new contract if the Pens choose to hang on.
3. Pearson has not put as many points up as hoped, but he has been doing well. He has a wicked shot and does things right. I don't think the Penguins are ready to move him out. Ferland would be an offensive upgrade, but Carolina might not want to take on his contract either.
4. Its hard to see either of the 4 being demoted to the 4th line, so I think Pens would probably move out Simon in this type of deal.

Simon
2019 2nd round pick (PIT)

Ferland (salary retained)

I think a possible deal would look something like this. What are your thoughts on this? I personally think Dzingel would be a better addition.

been wanting ferland on the pens for a while now. Power F to match up against tom wilson. he reminds me of chris kunitz, but drops the gloves way more. he'd be a good fit on geno's line

Who do you have 3LW and 4LW in that case? What kind of deal can you see take place? And would you prefer Ferland over Dzingel?

With the bidding that’s going to be going on for a guy like him, I can’t see them not getting a first.

Also Simon is a super cheap option for another year, rather hang on to him and move a prospect that’s a few years off

my ideal lines would be,
Guentz-- sid-- rust
Ferland-- geno -- horny
Pearson- brass- kessel
sheahan- cullen- ZAR.

in terms of a deal i think simon would have to be included or else he wouldn't fit in the lineup and he's skilled enough to where he deserves to play, canes might love him for the skill he has + cheap deal he's on. maybe Simon & a 2nd is what i would offer. Ferland's style of play would be crucial to have on the team especially during playoffs when we will eventually run into the caps. i like dzingel but i think he'd be to expensive to acquire, for the pens at least

Simon is a valuable asset, which is why I gave up a 2nd with him. With the amount of players who might get moved, I think teams rather give up 1sts for those guys before doing so with Ferland.

I like those lines. As for Ottawa, I feel like a Simon+Oleksiak+2nd for Dzingel+Harpur could be something reasonable? Maybe add more...

i like it but i feel like another team that needs scoring would overpay for him, i don't like the thought of losing oleksiak but if he was a part of a deal like that i wouldn't mind. Riikola and Pettersson have both been amazing

I think its a bit to early to pull the trigger on this, and I think GMs know it.

You are way to close to the deadline. They should hold and wait to see what is going to become available before making a trade.
