Description
This team is rumored to be moving to either Vegas or Quebec. I think Quebec is more likely since the league wants the expansion money from Vegas and probably won't approve an expansion team in Canada right now.
This is still a competitive team but unfortunately, this team should suck it up and suffer through the next two years letting their young guys play and learn and then when it is time to move in 2017-18 and they have a ton of cap space and a place where FAs will be happy to come to they can go FA hunting and land a No. 1 G, top 4 Dman and two top 9 forwards.
It'll be kind of ironic seeing the old Hartford Whalers transform into the new Quebec Nordiques.

Just my opinion as fan (and a Canadian). Quebec has nice new arena, and a great, but small fan base. Hype and something new will drive tickets sales in the first few years. But there is not the business backing or a wealthy fan base that can get 16,000 fans paying NHL ticket prices year after year after year.
Yes, I can remember the WHA and NHL Nordiques. Wish they had never left Quebec. But the same reasons exist now as before why it probably is not a viable franchise. Only If the wealthy owner is prepared to lose million or ten of millions of $ per year, then can it flourish.

I would love to see it work in Quebec but I agree with you, long term, it probably will not. That is too bad because the league needs more teams north of the border IMO. The league is greedy and will probably move them to QBC just to collect the relocation fee knowing that the team may fail within 10 years and have to move again. Kind of like expanding to Atlanta twice and watching both teams leave there for Canada.
