Cant Sit Still this TDL

Description
First, move Eberle for picks. Eberle hasn't been bad; he's on track for 50 points and that'll be worth something to at least one contender at the TDL. I'd imagine him going to Nashville. They have the cap space, their offense is the only thing left wanting at this point and they're serious contender for the Cup this year.

Next, move Hickey for picks. Hickey hasn't been all that bad either, but the Islanders have shown they're not really a better team with him there. Maybe Hickey just doesn't fit into Trotz' system, but whatever it is, I'd rather get picks for him and let Toews continue to work magic in his old spot. While he isn't as valuable to a buyer as Eberle at the TDL, he has term and a long resume of being a reliable 2nd-3rd pairing defenseman. I think Winnipeg would be willing to shell out a few extra picks for some added depth on defense, especially on their weaker left side.

Finally, the Isles make a move for Nyquist. With the Red Wings in the midst of a rebuild and Nyquist a UFA this coming offseason, the Isles should be able to rent Nyquist for a 1st rounder and a few other pieces. Not only will the Red Wings be happy to make another 1st round pick this offseason, I'd think Nyquist would also be happier in the playoffs than not in the playoffs. I would imagine he'd waive his NTC. I could see Detroit asking more in return for Nyquist given his production this season, but given the fact that he's a rental, I doubt the Isles would give too much more than what I've listed here. There are other fish in the sea this TDL. I've heard that Dzingel, Toffoli and Simmonds are all also on the trade block, with bigger targets in Tarasenko and Duchene to keep in mind.

Whether the trades involve the specific teams I've mentioned or the specific players I've acquired, I will end on this point: the Isles should trade Hickey and Eberle for picks and then turn those picks into a player that can help them not only make the playoffs, but thrive once they get there.

Why should the Isles do that? They are currently leading their division so there is no reason to pawn off guys like Eberle or Hickey. Especially if the return for Eberle is so low. Then you go out for Nyquist, a very similar player to Eberle and also an UFA after the season. That makes no sense at all.
What the Isles should do in my opinion is bring in one or two veterans to keep them on course for the playoffs. Preferably someone signed beyond this season who can leas the younger players

I agree with a lot of what you say. I'd prefer to bring in someone with term (like Tarasenko or Duchene), but I think that'd involve pawning off Dobson and/or Wahlstrom. that's a deal breaker for me; I think they'll both be big parts of our future in as soon as two years. Dobson especially.

The reason why I'd move out Eberle in favor of Nyquist is because Eberle is on track to have his worst season while playing next to Barzal, Bailey and Lee at various times. If you're really that good, you should be putting up a 60+ point pace next to those guys. Nyquist, on the other hand, is close to point per game on arguably the league's worst team. Imagine how much better Nyquist could be next to Barzal, Lee or Bailey?

I'll also say that Nyquist and Eberle are going to want about the same amount of aav of 6-7m next year. Eberle is already putting in the "I haven't really thought about free agency yet" talk in (HE'S LEAVING). So why hang on to Eberle if he's going to leave and his production is only okay? I'd much rather bring Nyquist aboard and have a chance at getting him to stay, especially if he's going to put up so many more points than Eberle.

The reason why I'd move Hickey is because since Devon Toews took his spot when he was injured, the Isles have been a far and away a better team. It's also been said by many fans that Hickey is our worst defenseman this year (aside from Sbisa). I'd rather move Hickey for picks and let Toews thrive, both for his betterment and for the team's.

I dont see Lou moving anyone - need depth for the playoffs. Ebs is starting to heat up, knows the system and has great chemistry with Lee and Nelson. Hickey and Pelech can rotate out as the 7th D-man - you dont lose much with either. I would target a goal scorer like Dzingel or SImmonds. Barzal needs a finisher and Beau is just not getting it done. Ladd is also going to be back in few weeks which should bring some more secondary scoring if he can stay upright...
