Description

Not that I think this should happen, but what I want. I'm tired of Gardiner Zaitsev. I did not trade for a Dman, I want to keep the key prospects and don't want someone with term to screw up cap next season. The scratches can easily rotate in and out, Hainsey and Oz both can get mins on the third pairing. Ennis can play either wing, if Goat needs a breather we can bring Lindholm back up (would be tricky as to who we could send down though, maybe Oz for one game before bringing him back up, he's waiver exempt).

I don’t Like your D pairings. I don’t want to waste reilly’s Offensive flare like we are with zaitsev this year. Just remember back to gardiner on the power play getting out played and taking a penalty and the puck still made it to the back of our net... that’s what gardiner looks like without zaitsev. If I had a say

Reilly/zaitsev
Dermott/ozhiganov
Gardiner/hainsey

Go with that for a bit but keep Gards on the PP to get his minutes. Play him against lesser competition and he will still produce offensively. This allows Reilly and zaitsev to get up to the 25min mark keep Dermott and ozhiganov around 18-20m. Hainsey will get the rest he needs without affecting reilly’s Time.

Zaitsev can take on top minutes ice time and would give Reilly added support both defensively and offensively.

I think we have been down this path before. I HATE Nikita Zaitsev. 25 mins per night? A huge no thanks. Gardiner on the 3rd pairing? Same reaction. I'd be okay trying Rielly Zaitsev and Gardiner Dermott, but they would each get roughly 20 mins a night. No way Zaitsev should ever touch 25 mins a night.

You can't blame Zaitsev for getting big minutes. It's not like there are suitable replacements, especially on the PK. You really think Rosen and Holl are a viable NHL option? Hainey and Ozzie have been OK to good this year. Actually what I saw of the game last night, Marincin was fine. During this bad stretch of the Leafs....and hoping it isn' the new norm, the forwards collectively have poor to average.

One reason he played big minutes (and Hainsey too), if that Babcock justifiably doesn't play the Gardiner on the PK.

Totally agree. I'm talking primarily about 5v5 time. I understand Zaitsev on PK (but still think Dermott Rielly should get more mins there). My bad, should have specified.
