And you ignore an entire calendar year of him being amazing (2017) and over half a calendar year of being amazing (2016) and day he’s bad lmao. Get over yourself bud I’m done arguing with you. I’ll be laughing when he’s in vezina contention one day haha

You ignore an entire calendar year of him being awful and use 3 games of playing above his head to say he is back lol backfire was strong.

Last 5 starts sv%: below .890

Matt Murray finishes the season with a .919 SV% despite the horrendous start. This is better than Anderson, Rinne, Gibson, Brobovsky, Rask, Holtby, Dubnyk, Hellybuck, etc... Since his return (Dec 15th) no goaltender who has a similar sample of ice time (>1500 min) has a better 5v5 save percentage than his .944. He also leads all goaltenders with a 5v5 HDSV% of .881. To say Matt Murray isn't a top 10 goaltender is foolish. I wont fault you too badly because at the time of our argument he was playing brutal, and its easy to allow the "recency" bias to effect your opinion. But clearly he is one of the best goaltenders in the game and proved it after this tremendous bounce back season.

Consistency matters my dude he had a good second half but he has never been able to be good an entire season and that matters when it comes to goalies. You cant be one of the worst goalies in the league for half a season and then be called a top 10 guy after playing better that same season.

PS Didnt you renounce your fandom after the Gudbranson move smirk

2016/17 he was great the whole season, just injuries. Matt Murray was bad for the 2017 calendar year like I said. I 100% agree you gotta be good for the entire season. That’s why I don’t believe Carey Price (or Matt Murray for that matter) deserve to be in the vezina conversation this season. With that being said, they both turned there seasons around at around the same time and finished very very strong. I’ll gladly take a hot Matt Murray going into playoffs. Sure he’s been inconsistent at times but he’s a young goalie with his best years ahead of him. When Murray is playing his game there aren’t many guys I’d take ahead of him. I think we’ll see Matt Murray in the vezina conversation sooner rather than later. He’s a career .917 save percentage guy. That’s very respectable.

As for Erik Gubranson, he’s been surprisingly very good for Pittsburgh since coming here. Him and Pettersson have made up a great bottom pairing for us. He’s rocking a 54.7% CF and still averaging close to 20 mins a game. Obviously he’s gonna fizzle out and turn into a pylon, but if he’s good for us during the playoffs I’ll take it!
