Who are you going to call in Edmonton? No way they'll trade a potential lottery pick and deny a new GM (whoever they hire) the chance to put his stamp on the draft. But if the Oilers decision is to go for it now, then the Habs would likely also be asked to take some cap hit away to open some room for the new GM to make some UFA moves.

Guys this is getting a little embarrassing for other Habs fans on here.

If you don't like the trade, fine, you don't have to but in no way can anyone say that this is an over payment on the Habs. That is so bias its oozing out every orifice.

Go look at what it takes to get a lottery draft pick in a trade. (Which is where the Oilers are probably selecting in this years draft - Maybe EVEN THE 1ST OVERALL PICK) Then what would need to be added for them to add Puljujarvi, who is, let me remind you, only 20 years old and a former 4th overall pick.

How many players on the habs are younger than Puljujarvi? Only Kotkaniemi. So if he is already "a bust" in your minds by the lack of value you think he has, than that would apply to Mete, Juulsen, Poehling, etc.

Tatar has been a revelation this year but he is BY NO MEANS a star player. He is what he was supposed to be in Vegas when they acquired him. A really good 2nd line winger. Peca has very little value. Maybe a late pick at best?

The 2nd rounder plus Tatar would not get you a prospect like Puljujarvi and a lottery pick. The only guy dumb enough to maybe to do it, has just been fired and the other is in Ottawa. Except he did it already for a legit top line center in Duchene at least, although I think you could ask him now if it was worth it? The answer is no.

So please refrain from this exaggeration, its a circle jerk of bad misrepresentation and misinformation. Don't know if you notice but there is a stigma about Habs fans on this site and these kind of comments are what makes it justified.

And don't use "Other fans do it too" as an explanation. Don't stoop to their level. Its trash commenting and we all know it.

Don't give me that BS about Habs fans and stigma and not knowing what we're talking about. A lottery pick is as good as a lottery ticket. You may win you may not. If the picks was a 2020 1st that alone would have improved the value imo but still not good enough. So we give a up a guy who has obvious chemistry with his linemates and is on pace to score 60+ pts for a guy that is on pace to score a whopping 16 pts this season... just because he's young? The lottery pick is exactly what it implies, its the same thing as buying a lotto ticket. You may win or chances are you spend 5 bucks for nothing. As far as Peca goes, he's better than people think. He has the ability to score goals as a depth player. He's fast and fits in well with the Habs style of play. People have not given him a chance and were calling for trades before he even played his first game for Montreal. So excuse me if Im against trading for a guy who IS producing for a guy who MIGHT produce and a chance and getting another good player that will play 3-4 years down the road.

Read Jellopony, read. Never did I say the Habs had to do this trade. If you wouldn't do it for X reasons, fine. Simply that the VALUE is not an over payment.

As for your lotto ticket analogy, save it. Its a piss poor motto. 1st round picks, especially those of the lottery pick variety are worth a ton because of the potential they can give. Yeah not every pick hits but many of them do and when they do, its usually a star player. Don't believe me, ask Ottawa how that Duchene trade is looking like it'll turn out? But by you're estimation, its just a lotto ticket right? Except instead of the 1 in a million chances you get from the Lotto 649, the chances are as high as approx 1 in 5 if you finish last....... No this isn't just a lotto ticket. Its a chance to get a player that completely changes the dynamic of a franchise. Way more than Tatar will ever be able to give the habs, who are overachieving right now. As are many of their players.

Comparing point totals of a 20 year old and a 27 year old? How dense are you? Tatar wasn't even playing in the NHL at 20 and he turned out alright, maybe give the young Puljujarvi the same chance to find his footing? Tatar has rebounded nicely this year but this team is retooling and he is what he is. A 2nd line player. One that at the beginning of the season was a toss in for a trade that saw a guy who scored less points than he did that same year go the other way. Why was that? This is classic putting all your stock in the flavor of the week. Oh wow, Tatar is scoring? He's untouchable. Plays bad for a couple weeks? Ah he's trash, trade him for a bag of pucks. Look at what he's done throughout his career and not just the one half season in which he's been playing good. He's a consistent 20 goal winger and nothing more. Nice to have but not going to be the defining thing for a cup. Don't know if you noticed but the best players in the Playoffs are the big game studs. Those are the players that win you cups and they only usually go in the top 10 of the draft..... where those "maybe's" are, remember?

As for being excused no, as I said previously, you don't have to like the trade. That's fine. But the VALUE is not an over payment. That is absolutely absurd.
