Are Mitch and Auston interested in 5 year deals?

The rumour has it that’s what auston people are looking at 5 or 6 year deal.

What are the minimum years for them to become ufa?? Matthews would have 7 years with a 4 year deal. Not sure about Marner...

and that's based on what exactly? Why is it people think that if they sign a 5 year deal that means they're out the door in 5 years....all it means is that the leafs will be shelling out a higher cap hit for them when they get to negotiate a 3rd contract while still in their mid 20s.

If they both push for 5 years and it gives the Leafs some cap flexibility in the interim...there's an argument it makes sense for both sides
