It still works for LA. The Caps still should be cautious of taking on the last two years of that deal, even at half off. Kovalchuk is a supremely talented 35 year old.

But the Caps are short on cap space, and could use better overall defense, so if you stared with, like, Forbort and Martinez for Jaskin and Niskanen, giving the Caps a veteran top six of Kempny, Carlson, Forbort, Martinez, Orpik, and Orlov, at a slightly lower cap hit than their current group... that might convince Washington to get a dozen years older at one wing spot?
