Subban is over rated and way over paid (mostly due to a terrible decision to go to arbitration) hes a fan favorite and is a good set up man but that contract is cancer. Price is going to need a big contract too soon and he is (as proven by this year) way more valuable. For that money you can get a compareable defenseman and a great top 9 forward. As that contract goes on i see the canadiens getting worse. Hes not a game changer and after Price they will really only have enough money for one big contract. I would assume Pacioretty and Galchenyuk both need raises, have to resign Markov (or comparable), and youre signing okposo (who is gunna take a long term contract). Thats nearly 40 million or more on your top line, d pairing and #1 goalie. 30 mill for the other 17 players…

Nope. There would be teams lined up with offers for Subban if Montreal made him available. Yes the cap hit is high, but he's still young enough that he'll likely be an elite point producer through the end of the contract. Don't see how it's a cancer.

Agreed on Subban dgab, but I'm not sure that trade, or Okposo at only $6mil is realistic. I agree with the idea of signing a RW though, but I think we'd have to settle for Brouwer or Eriksson (if we get anything at all in free agency, which is never a guarantee).

Subban's contract is not a cancer. He is ine of the top dmen in the NHL. Only he and Karlsaon topped 40 helpers in 3 straight years.

He plays as much as anymone and can go 35 mins a night in the playoffs.

He's a stud. 9 mil contracts for ellite players isn't what kills you.. comtracts like Emelin & Desharnais are the problem. Pay the top guys, don't over pay jabronis.

Pleks, Emelin, Markov, and Eller all have expiring contracts before Pacioretty and Price... Galchenyuk could be more difficult. Yeah I doubt we get Okposo but I think the Vermette/DD trade is a possibility. Both one year left on their contracts, similar cap hits, DD is younger and has been producing more points... Crazier things have happened? Vrbata is also a low-cost MB style RW option.
