Description

It's all about money!!

Dorion will do his best to get some good picks while dumping salary. Hopefully Stone will want to stay and rebuild. And there will be plenty of cap room to pay him just to reach the cap floor.

Gudbranson offers cost certainty and protection for the other young D, and keeps the local content.

Spooner's deal has one less year than Smiths, and both have been on waivers. Edm. gets faster and younger. Wolanin gets delt simply because his entry level deal expires and the left side D is crowded.

Not all bad, and next year will be painful again, but if somehow Eugene gives up majority control of the team, the future could be bright.

That Edmonton trade is nowhere close. Smith can actually play hockey at the NHL level (unlike Spooner), and Wolanin is one of the Sens' better D. So it's so unbelievably far off in value when Dzingel gets added in too.

The Sens will also get more for Duchene; Stastny last year got a 1st, 4th and B-level prospect.

Anderson has an extra year and has proven to be good in playoffs. Not saying we should do it but I would be fine with it.

I'm the first to admit I may not know the scouting report on all the teams, but the bottom line is the GM will have his marching orders from the owner. And if he can come away after the trade deadline close to the cap floor adding 2 1st rounders and some other picks - he keeps his job. To look at this any other way from an Ottawa fan's stand point is just torture.
