I know everyone hates the idea of Eriksson getting $6 mill per year, but who else could they get to produce 60 points? Maybe over pay on the money per year to get the term down to 5 years?
The top 3 RW's on the market this year are Eriksson, Okposo, and Brouwer. There's really nothing after those three. There's Shane Doan but I don't see him coming to Boston. If the Bruins want to make the playoffs next year, they would need one of these guys playing RW for them. Having Pastranak and Hayes as your top two RW's is not going to get it done. So when you break it down....Eriksson and Okposo average the exact same amount of points per year. Okposo is 28 years old and Eriksson is 31. I think Okposo definitely gets a 6 year term, maybe even 7. Eriksson will most likely get a 6 year term if he goes to the market. Perhaps he would settle for a 5 year term at slightly more money per year? Brouwer's production is way off from Eriksson and Okposo - he's a 40 point guy and he's the same age as Eriksson. So, if you don't resign Eriksson and you miss on Okposo - do you pay Brouwer at $5 mill per year for 4 or 5 years? Brouwer may even go for higher than that as he had a good playoff this year.
Whether you like it or not, the market for 60 point forwards who play 20 minutes a night is $6 mill per year.
