Thread: Healthy
nope - only some are correct. right now Backes needs to be a healthy scratch, but his salary doesn't warrant him on the on the bench so instead, you have the following:

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak (one of the best lines in the league, don't break it up)
Debrusk - Krejci - Johansson (mojo showed great chemistry w these guys all healthy and Debrusk was going off, don't break that up unless injuries make you OR play drops that much)
Heinen - Coyle - Backes (should be Cehlarik - Coyle - Heinen, but the $6 million hit puts Backes in the lineup - Heinen belongs w 3rd line, he did his damage there last yr & mojo and pasta can flip if needed)
Nordstrom - Kuraly - Wagner (although the chemistry is better with it Acciari - Kuraly - Wagner, plain and simple Norstrom > Acciari)
Chara - McAvoy (clearly their top D pairing all year long, although i wouldn't mind seeing Chara/Carlo as a shutdown pairing in the playoffs if carlo can stay healthy)
Krug - Carlo (offensive guy paired with a stay at home, responsible defender - see comment above, but you can't put krug with McAvoy, Gryz, Moore, or Miller)
Grzelcyk - Miller (Gryz has far and away earned this spot, but i do like Moore > Miller, but Miller plays the right side, Moore doesn't plain and simple)

Rask
Halak (no surprise here, but i would say going into the playoffs don't be afraid to keep the rotation going, it's clearly working - they won't, but hey nothing says you can't try it)

Scratches:
Acciari (should be on the 4th line; see all other comments regarding 3rd and 4th line set ups)
Cehlarik (even with Backes scratched as he should be, Cehlarik still is scratched as well)
Moore (solid depth d piece and can be rotated in as needed)

rather than keep having type boxes with long text at the beginning;

You can interchange Spooner with JFK on that line and put Spooner at the C, JFK did play on the left side a little last year in his ONE game played. It's not a long term solution but it allows Spooner to showcase he still has some talent at the C position, you're not relying on that line to be a work horse for you anyways. Yes, the time to move Spooner is now - actually 7-10 days ago leading up to the draft.

I like your assessment of the Hayes situation and to a point, I agree with you. I think Sweeney should take ANY pick in the draft he can get for him (even a 7th rounder) because Hayes has proven he can't play here and that $2.3million would be better used elsewhere. That being said, last year Hayes did have an injury that set him back a little bit and because of that- I see them over valuing him in a trade and not pulling the trigger with the thought process "he might still have something on the RW for us." even though they would be wrong. With his contract up at the end of the year, I can see Sweeney valuing him being on the team and being a body who can play as more valuable than the pick and just ride out the yr left of the contract........look for a deadline deal with Hayes if they're flirting with the playoff line.

Adam McQuaid is the ideal number 5/6 d man. He brings more grit and grind than anything and right now is the heart and sole of your d core and your grit and grind. I like what morrow showed in the playoffs last year and think that he would better on the left side than kevin miller however he needs to prove that again this year in camp. At 24 years old he will get the chance to show he can be a 7th defenseman. Should he fail, look for the guys you mentioned to see that time on a rotation. remember, keeping them at the AHL level or junior levels will not burn the first year of their contracts. save that first year for as long as you can, they already burned mcavoy's.

What cost us the playoff game was being on our 7th, 8th, and 9th defenseman and NEEDING to rely on a 19 year old rookie in mcavoy to play 24 minutes a night and a 41 yr old chara to play almost 28 min per night. This group has more talent on it then most people give credit too and Sweeney will ride out some of the bad contracts to get those younger players more experience and not waste their entry level contracts.

Love the discussion; and I want to respond to all of your points. Like I said - this is what I think they WILL have for coming out of training camp, like you said, I too see many things I don't like about it - and I hope there are a couple young kids who step up in training camp and force Sweeney to make some deals. I'm gonna post that mid-season roster shortly (keep an eye out for it).

I don't like Spooner at LW either, but with Schaller as a left shot, that like could easily be Schaller/Spooner/Hayes or Schaller/Spooner/JFK.
I hate hate HATE having Spooner on the LW, but it's a place for him to play and show SOMETHING for them to move him early in the season. I think they're looking to move him QUICKLY so his value doesn't drop by him playing on the LW.

I still don't like Hayes' play especially with his contract, but it is because of that no one will take him off your hands unless you take less to get him out of here with a good player. I don't they're trying to black ball him, I just think his play is too poor to ice him every day while still trying to compete, I'd look for him to sit a lot and have that 3rd line look more like Schaller/Spooner/JFK (or even Nash here sometimes)

The 3rd/4th lines will be very dependent on if JFK starts in AHL or NHL level because of his training camp. They're high on him so I think they plan for him to be at the NHL next year (just like McAvoy).

I agree they should pick one or the other between Miller and Quaidder, but with Quaidder he doesn't have much trade value and I don't like the idea of moving Miller because even though he is a right shot he showed last year he could play left side. I think Grzelyck can change this assuming he has a good camp because he makes another D man disposable.

Kelley, Ference, and Seidenberg played huge leadship roles in Bos 2011 championship - you're getting these guys so the younger guys like McDavid and RNH can learn what true leadership is about and what it takes to win in the playoffs. (Sorry you can't get a guy like Kane, toews, datsyuk, or kopitar).
You give Kelly a 1yr "prove it" contract so he hopefully plays well enough to earn himself another contract - maybe with you maybe not. And you have Seidenberg for 2 seasons, he has made it known he'd be willing to waive is NTC for BOS if they ask him too.

The deal w bos makes sense for both teams bc the Bruins need the winger help of someone who can score. You wanna move Eberle instead? Fine, won't argue with that. The package would be ABOUT the same.
Subban is one of the highest touted goalie prospects. Having him in your pipeline allows you to move on from Talbot (via trade bc he has value for younger cheaper prospects) next season when Subban is ready to split on the ice with Enroth in his final year OR if Subban is ready the following his recovery from injury you can move Enroth and the deadline.

The package for Hall can be amended but A top prospect would be the top of the list for the return. Heck BOS can throw in the rights to Khoko or Griffith to close that deal.

If your combination of Hall, Eberle, McDavid, RNH was so good then where's your playoff run? Hall is the one who makes most sense for both sides. He is also the oldest of EDM core guys and most overpaid of the group. If you think Eberle is better to move fine- he still helps bos.

Remember there is still $2 million in cap space to work with to negotiate with Yandle. OR you could make offers to Torey Krug and Danny DeKeyser instead. This would give you an abundance of defensemen who are always easy to move at the deadline when you know better what you need for your own playoff run.
