Why would Ottawa pay the Leafs to take on Horton's contract?

It's just an example in that he could be traded. But Ottawa's motivation is if Marleau is retiring, Ottawa gets a $6.25M for $0.

I can't put him on LTIR. It's a proxy to show how much cap room they might have if he were to go on it.

If he retires Toronto incurs the cap hit not Ottawa. 35+ and Prorated contract. Sorry, but he is not waving.
