As a Stars fan, I want absolutely nothing to do with that Zaitsev contract. We have cap issues as it is, and if we aren't getting paid quite a bit to take him then I don't want him.

Zaitsev is far better than polak and fedun. He gets a bad rap on this site. He is about 1m over paid but is versatile and if deployed right could be a good fit with the stars especially if johns ends up on ltir for any length of time. He is worth a 3rd or 4th round pick to a team that could use a 2nd pair rhd.

He definitely wouldn't be more important to this team than Polak is. And is worse defensively than both Polak and Fedun. Zaitsev is just not the dman we need. We need a legitimate 2nd pairing defenseman that can play top 4 minutes, not be a liability, contribute offensively and compliment Heiskanen's game, and kill penalties. We don't need a dman that needs to be sheltered. The type of dman we need is gonna be costly

Oh and by the way... you just described zaitsev... Zaitsev sheltered? Bahahaha... he plays Dzone starts kills penalties and picks up slack for gardiner. Oh he also plays the big minutes at the end of games we lead by a goal. Put him with someone he doesn’t have to babysit and he is good for 20-30 points.

Doubt he would see that same usage in Dallas. And yes I do know Polak was a Leaf. I also know he's been great for us this year and is dominant on the PK. I'd prefer the Stars pay a higher price and target someone with playoff experience that we know will be good. A veteran

I can understand that there may be a cap issue, but to dismiss zaitsev without even watching him play(which is pretty clear from your comments) is a bit short sighted.

The reason I was making this trade was for him to play for heiskanen. Believe it was @McFaksaGOAT I was talking to about it. There are a few teams that zaitsev fits on as far as needs... Dallas is one.

Zaitsev would immediately be your 4th best Dman. I can’t speak for cap as I’m not sure what type of UFA moves Dallas wants to make. The team could certainly use a bit more scoring.

I don’t know if he fits this year with (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) how good Fedun and Polak have been, but I’d for sure think he’d be a fit next year. I think TOR would have to add tho so we wouldn’t have to absorb the entire contract
