Description
I think we all agree that Gardiner can walk with the addition of Muzzin (applause for you, GM Dubas). We can try to trade Zaitzev, hopefully Liljegren will be ready. Hainsey will walk or retire, and if push comes to shove, Nylander can go. I think the best idea would be to give Marner 4 or 6 years so we don't have to deal with signing Matthews and Marner at the same time again. Do you think the amounts I gave our other FAs fair?

Marner is getting 10M if he’s not signing a bridge. Gardiner has to walk 100%, Johnsson signs for more but Sparks for less

Before Matthews signed, I would have argued that that cap hit for Marner is way too high. Now it might be too low.
Johnsson is only a few points behind Kapanen, playing significantly less minutes, and will most likely outscore him by years end earning him possibly more than Kapanen, if not the same amount.

And I don't agree that Gardiner should go but do agree that they can't afford him. Gone are the days of earning a spot, not it's who can we plug in there at that price and hope for the best.

this is bad talk about giving away money your fourth line center is making 3M the goat is doing a good job at 600K and Moore at 775K. Sparks alarm just went off back to reality he isn't getting 2M to sit on the bench. Oz isn't getting 2M either bab would give that to Hans before Oz. Liligren and Sandin aren't ready and you need to pay bonus its Rosen and Holl are way cheaper. Marner I think will be over 9 even on a bridge. Kap is good at #M Johnsson has started to get it going so not sure if 1.8M will get it done.

4 years is probably the one term the Leafs will put their foot down on and not agree to for Marner. That same number on a 3yr term probably works, tho.

It sounds like Kapanen and Johnsson are in line to get squeezed. They will be this season's version of Hyman and Brown. Getting both below $3m on even a 1yr extension is probably a win.

I agree that Sparks and Ozzie shouldn't get that much. They're both under $1m for me otherwise sign veteran replacements for each. Not sure if the leafs would agree with that philosophyw but makes sense to me.

Gardiner was gone this offseason regardless of Muzzin. They would need to move out major contracts for him to stay and I think everyone agrees that wouldn't be worth it. I like him...think he's a great 2LD...but he'll almost certainly be a cap casualty

I'd lean less towards a Pirri signing and more towards a vet that can play 4C . I'd rather keep Gauthier as a healthy scratch then enter the season with him as Plan A for 4C. Kruger maybe? If there's a vet still looking for a contract a few weeks into July that will take close to $1m I'd take him over Gauthier.

I think Trevor Moore makes the roster next year as does Rosen. Both were given 1-way contracts which usually means they will either earn a starting job or be a healthy scratch to start the season. Their $750k contracts are good assets for us. Maybe Bracco fights for a spot at camp at too if Brown is moved out.

@Fignn … bonuses for guys like Liljegren next year would still need to be earned and, if they are, can get pushed to the following year's cap if necessary. It's only $400k I think max.

If Zaitsev can be traded without a sweetener being too sweet...it'll probably be the move of the offseason for Dubas

I wouldn't be surprised to see a vet or two signed to Professional Tryouts (Moulson maybe)...and then let them compete in camp with some marlies for bottom line wings
    Fignn liked this.

I agree with everything said I know its only 400K but being so tight everything counts.
