Kassian makes under 2 million dollars and has one year left. Don't think that's a cap dump. Playoff teams might like a guy like that on their 4th line for a cup run. And Russell isn't a bad bottom pair guy for a team that isn't going to have cap issues over the next 2 seasons.

Obviously Edmonton has been a dumpster fire as an organization, but with Chiarelli gone and a new GM that will take full control on his way, a lot can change. Duchene and McDavid have played great together at past world championships. There’s a lot that goes into a players decision, don’t act like you know.
