Dubnyk to Calgary

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 13, 2019
Published: Feb. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I made this trade with a Calgary roster and no one responded, so I thought I'd try it again with a Wild roster. I'm just very curious about value and team-need responses on this. Unless Parsons, or someone else is NHL ready next season, this trade makes sense...
Trades
MIN
  1. Andersson, Rasmus
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Everything I read about Andersson makes me believe he is exactly the type of d-man I want on the Wild. He and Brodin (if not traded) could be a fantastic pairing for years to come.
CGY
  1. Dubnyk, Devan
Additional Details:
I really have no idea how to gauge a goalie's value in a trade... Does this trade seem fair, value-wise?

I'd do it. I've liked Andersson ever since I found out about him about 5-6 months ago. Apparently Calgary is looking to add a defenseman so I'm not sure they'd do this, but you might be able to give them Pateryn and one of Hunt or Bitetto so overall they'd add a blueliner (lose Andersson but add Pateryn and Bitetto/Hunt).

Kahkonen looks like he'll be ready for the NHL soon, maybe even next year, and we need to burn this team to the ground so trading Dubnyk isn't a bad idea IMO.

Dubnyk, Pateryn, and Hunt for Andersson and a 2nd, or would a 1st be what's needed?

I'm not sure. Goalies seem to be severely underrated in trades for some reason and I'm not sure how highly Calgary values Andersson. Maybe Dubnyk, Pateryn, and Hunt for Andersson, 2nd, and a B prospect?

I'd be reaaaaally careful about that trade. Good goalies are unicorns, and having one for the next three years, with your foot in the door to extend him is not easy to find. Rasmus Andersson is good, but trading goalies is a whole other spectrum of value.

I'm ready to move on from Dubnyk and certainly not interested in extending him once his current contract is up (he'd be 35 then). Plus, I have no belief in the Wild as currently constructed and firmly believe a rebuild is in order. Andersson would be a nice piece in that capacity.

I agree, but the Wild are just spinning their tires in the mud/snow and have been for the past 6 years. This team needs to tear it down and rebuild, our core has proven they aren't good enough for a cup run. We have a promising young goalie in Kahkonen and he may or may not pan out, but trading Dubnyk is a pretty sure-fire way to tank and rebuild this team. Dubnyk is only getting older and he'd have a great shot at a cup in Calgary, by the time the Wild rebuild Dubnyk's contract will have expired and we'd lose him in free agency.

See that is interesting. So this is a tangent then; I know we always beat the dead horse that is Staal to the jets for a 1st round plus or minus little things. Would you guys as Wild fans be alright with Staal for a 2nd plus one of any of the Jets' goalie prospects Brossoit, Berdin, or Comrie?

Well as I said we already have Kahkonen, who has an AHL goalie of the month in addition to winning best goalie at the AHL all-star game as a rookie. I wouldn't hate Comrie since another goalie prospect wouldn't hurt and Comrie has good numbers. I guess it would depend on how our FO views Kahkonen (which I think they have a high opinion of him) and whether or not there's a guy late in the 1st round that we feel we absolutely have to have.

I'd be mostly talking about Brossoit here. The guy has absolutely killing it as Helle's backup and is a 25 year old RFA. He's a bit of a risk since he was pretty bad with the Oilers, but we all know how easy it is to play bad with the oilers.

I wouldn't hate it, but I still think I'd prefer Staal for a 1st straight up.

Sorry. I love Asmus Randersson. He is what you would call a "Steady Eddy", with a big shot and great hockey sense. Would not part with him or his contract at this time. You got me thinking though (if you really want Dubnyk gone). How about Mike Smith & T.J. Brodie for Devan Dubnyk & Jared Spurgeon?

No thanks, the Wild are trading the two better players here, Mike Smith and Brodie are both worse than Dubnyk and Spurgeon. This team needs to rebuild and this trade doesn't satisfy that.

Good question...I don't know. I'm not worried about this season...so that would give the Wild all off season to figure it out.
