Lightning Deadline

Created by: Hockeyplayer1
Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2019
Published: Feb. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The lightning improve their offense with Anisimov for Callahan. Anisimov can play either wing or center. They also get Hayden who is a big bodied power winger who can play a hard tough game which they don’t really have for a playoff series that requires is. They also get a high scoring offensive defenseman that they can play deeper in the lineup than he is in Chicago and will provide great depth scoring for the playoffs. He’s also got another year on his cheap deal.

Both these moves, Anisimov at nearly $2M cheaper than Callahan, Hayden still on an ELC, and Gustafsson at only $1.1M should help Tampa with their cap situation for next year.

The Hawks get Taylor Raddysh who played a lot with Strome and Debrincat in juniors and lit it up with them. They take on cap but have the space to do that for another year. And get a late, late first round pick either this year or next.
This doesn’t really hurt the hawks ability to sign UFAs with summer because they should really only be signing one big ticket guy anyways with both strome and Debrincats contracts up the following year that they will need space for. This move makes sense for both teams IMO. Tampa gets MUCH deeper for these playoffs with one move and helps them next year as well.
Trades
CHI
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. Raddysh, Taylor
  3. 2019 1st round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Tampa’s 1st round pick is conditional. If they win the cup this year it goes to NY and Chicago would take the 2020 1st. If they don’t Chi gets the 2019 1st round pick

If TBL could shed Callahan, I'm sure they would have already. BUT I do like the trade overall. Just don't think it'll happen. AND I do like re-uniting those Erie Otters!

Maybe they just haven’t found the right trade that they like to move Callahan. They aren’t like Stan Bowman and willing to get absolutely fleeced just to move a bad contract.

This actually makes a lot of sense. As Stan himself said this week, they are shooting to be "elite" in the next 18-24 months, which means that next season is already going to be a write off, so I have no issue eating Callahan's salary for the rest of this season and next season.

I am not sure the organization is ready to sell off Gus. Let's see what a full training camp with Colliton can do for his defensive skills so I would pull out Raddysh and Gus and keep it as Hayden and Anisimov for Callahan and a 1st.

This is a good trade. I think TBL might even throw in another mid round pick to eat the callahan deal
