I like the Calgary trade.

I think we could ask for more from Toronto but I have a hard time figuring out what. My preference would be to send them Zucker and Spurgeon at half retention along with their choice of one of our RD prospects (Belpedio, F Johansson, S Johansson) in exchange for Nylander and Zatisev. Fat chance that happens, though, since Nylander will likely remain a Leaf for at least the remainder of his contract.

I figured i could get more for the Leafs but i was struggling to see the area of need on D prospects so i had no intention on adding Sandin/Liligren maybe Kap/Johnsson would be a good fit?

What are MIN fans interested in? From looking at their Depth charts it seems Goaltending prospects are quite low hence why i added Woll (Hes a Top 5 NCAA Goalie) and close to a top 10/15 Goaltender prospect in the NHL atm

The flames trade is very well thought out but knowing Dubas if he is making a move with MIN its going to be for a defenceman and it is going to be coplicated.

Yeah it's very tough to figure out. Kapanen is a good fit, but Toronto loves the kid and moving him for Zucker is a lateral move at best, and probably worse than a lateral move since I think Kapanen is better (he's younger, too). Johnsson isn't a great fit for us since we already have a ton of LW's. In all seriousness the only way I can see a Zucker to Toronto trade is if we somehow packaged Spurgeon to get Nylander. They don't have the appropriate pieces for a Zucker trade (either too good or too poor of prospects/players) and Spurgeon isn't quite enough to land a guy like Nylander on his own (I'm using Nylander since he's the worst of their 4 superstar forwards). Spurgeon might get us Kapanen but again Toronto loves him so it would be tough for them to part with him.

Agreed, Dubas is going to want Spurgeon or Dumba. We aren't parting with Dumba and our ask for Spurgeon might not be in Dubas' price range.

I made some adjustments to the Original trade. and TOR has no cap space for any Top 4 Dman atm without trading out their Core 4 and i don't think they have any intention on doing that for at least 2-3 years. I wanted to Toy around with if MIN misses the playoffs in 2019 the TOR 2019 2nd becomes a 2020 1st

Toronto is unlikely to make a move with the wild.
Dubas is going to try to trade with the canes, he has been chasing them like a fat guy chasing a hot dog, he has had a scout go to almost every Hurricanes game in the past month.

Yea, i just dont know what deal TOR makes with the Canes that helps them long term that makes sense. unless their is a 50% retention with CAR is unlikely to do

I agree, but they could afford Spurgeon at half retention (his cap hit would then be $2,593,750) and this wouldn't be too much to stomach for the Wild since he would only be on the books for one more season.

I like this modified trade but I still think it would be tough to get Kapanen from Toronto in a trade revolving around Zucker.

Oh I agree, I'm just saying those two would be the guys Dubas is after IF he is interested in trading with us.

Eh. I think he's a bit overrated at the moment. When he starts putting up his NCAA numbers in the AHL, then they can demand a lot for him, but until then he's probably worth more to Toronto than anywhere else.

The AHL is much different than the NCAA and the goalie position is the biggest crapshoot when it comes to projecting how well they will perform in the AHL/NHL.

I agree but the difference is experience, and prospect value is at a ALL TIME HIGH.

It is, but goalies always get a lower return than skaters. It's just the way it is in the NHL for some reason. It's funny since you always hear announcers/media members say "goaltenders are the most important position" but if you look at trade histories involving starting goaltenders, the value it takes to get them is very low. This is because the position is extremely risky, you either sink or swim and all the guys between are backups. No team wants to give up large assets for a potential backup goaltender.

I'm just going to repeat myself: he's worth more to Toronto than anywhere else. It's sort of like Kaprizov and the Wild, Kaprizov is lighting up the KHL but in a trade he'd probably get a much lower return than a North American or even Swedish/Finnish prospect would get since he's got the Russian factor to him and it's always a gamble whether or not KHL superstars can translate their game to the smaller ice.

I’d agree normally but Woll was drafted 3 years ago and his rights expire in July of 2020

Your right but he is more valuable as a prospect than he is a backup goalie in the AHL.
