Quoting: BOLTLOVER1
Oh Christ .. here we go again .. all Tampa players take hometown discounts because they love it here.. take under market bridge deals to help the team and no one waives NTC because Tampa is hockey nirvana and gosh darn it like Disneyland.
PLEASE .... Point contract a match for Stone and Point is priority 1 .. and 1b. Is getting a top pairing RD .. dont be surprised if talks with Buffalo resurface
OR.. MAYBE they realize that Tampa has been a cup contender the past several years AND also has the tax benefit... That's common sense reasoning for most, but I guess some blame the team friendly deals on BS like Disney lmao. Stamkos is the only bolt I can think of that IMMEDIATELY got paid big bucks. Point could easily get something like Stammer's 1st extension (5 yr x 7.5m).
COMPARABLE CONTRACT EXTENSIONS:
Stamkos:............... 21, 5 yr x 7.5m......(4.76m after taxes).......(232 points in 243 games at the time).......(0.954 points per game)
Kane:..................... 21, 5 yr x 6.3m......(3.7m after taxes).........(168 points in 188 games at the time).......(0.893 points per game)
Gaudreau:............ 23, 6 yr x 6.75m....(3.55m after taxes).......(143 points in 160 games at the time).......(0.893 points per game)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AVERAGES--> 21-23, 5/6 yr 6.85m 4m after taxes 181 points 197 games 0.913 points per game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Point:..................... 23, N/A yr x N/A m.......................................(210 points in 230 games at the time).......(0.913 points per game)
If you add Pointer into that same comparison, he'd rank 2nd in points, games, and points per game. Ironically, Point's .913 ppg was the exact same as average of the original 3 ppg comparison. But that coincidence makes it extremely easy to make predictions for Pointers extension. Stamkos and Kane were both 1st overall picks and were both 21 when they signed their extensions. Point and Gaudreau were 3rd and 4th round picks, both 23 when they signed their contracts. It's hard to predict what the length of the contract will be, but personally I'd say those averages are the best evidence for predicting Point's extension.
