I agree with your post. However, since he can play 10 games until he's not exempt from the expansion draft, I would let him play the 10 irrespective of home/away.

Any specific games that you would sit him out for, so he doesn't exceed the games played threshold?

Assuming he's healthy, I would sit him for the first two so he could get some practice time. Then, I would avoid Anaheim (cheap shot artists),

I don’t understand your reasoning... I’m sure the canucks will not burn the first year off his elc(although on here it doesn’t say he is a slide candidate I assume that just needs to be updated). With the Draft not happening till after next season and Hughes needing more than 2 years pro hockey I think he is safe no matter what.

Once he plays one game the first year of his ELC will be burned. If he plays 11 or more games this season he will be required to be protected in the expansion draft.

No he has to be a two year pro for the expansion and he can play 9 games and slide his elc.

Sorry that link doesn’t work... unless they have announced new rules for the Seattle draft... (which is after next season anyway) Hughes will be exempt. I’m also not sure why he isn’t eligable for the entry level slide. He will not turn 20 till October.
