When I read it, I assumed it meant that the pick had to be a top-2 for the deal to happen.

That said, there's no way in hell that Bergevin does this deal. Seven pieces for one bit of promise? It would be the Dutch buying Manhattan all over again.

So, Drouin, a first and 3 seconds for the #3 pick this season or next seasons Colorado pick(Isn't that how it would work?).
So you a banking on Colorado being bad next season with the injection of a top 2 player from the draft and Kale Makar joining the team?

No it means that both #1 and #2 overall picks are lottery protected. So we assume that unless Ottawas 2019 1st gets the #3 overall pick. Then the deal isn't happening.

What does Colorado send you if the pick is top 2? They can’t send you Ottawa’s pick next year or anything like that. This idea is very strange

why not just make the trade at the draft after the pick is already established as top 2?

1st/2nd overall 1st for
Drouin, Lindgren, Reilly, Hudon a 1st, and 32nds seems like too many pieces.
For me
Drouin, Lindgren a 1st and 2nd seems like enough for the chance at Hughes or Kakko.
