Because Zetterberg actually had back problems that literally forced him to retire, and the guy you're referring to with "irritation" from his equipment was Hossa, which was also a genuine problem which is why he was allowed to go on IR. So no, you can't just put a player on LTIR cuz your cap situation isn't working, I'm pretty sure that's cap circumvention. And the biggest consideration with this would be, why would Marleau agree to sit out the final year of his deal when he's fine?
