I might be one of the few that thinks that Stamkos to Wings makes the a lot of sense. It will just be tricky to clear that cap space.

I agree it works for the Wings, but it also works for a good 15 other teams. If you knew you could make $10.5M on any one of those teams, would you really pick Detroit? I see Detroit and Toronto in the same boat, your not getting a cup from them in the next 5 years. So why not go home to Toronto for the same money and play with this years #1 pick? I just don't see Detroit having enough pull to get Stamkos outside of overbidding for him. But it would be nice to get him.

It's all very dependent on what Stamkos decides he wants. Detroit can guarantee: the same contract as anyone else, the 1C spot, a new arena, a core that is his age or younger, less pressure than a Canadian market, closeness to home, and a clean management reputation. Detroit can't guarantee: hometown spotlight, best chance at a cup, captaincy.

All in all each possible location has it's pros and cons but I definitely think there are reasons to be optimistic that he comes to Detroit. But then again so does Montreal, Tampa, Buffalo, Toronto, and probably a few others. I have to add that I find it funny how each team it seems he would fit best on are in the Atlantic.

How about you trade Smith to the Bruins for fair value? thatway we can give him to FLA for pennies on the dollar and he can play with his bro.
