Have you seen how far Carter has fallen off this season? He's been one of the worst players in the league. Granted he was hurt and the Kings have been largely garbage but he's 34 and was never blessed with speed. The game is only getting faster and he's not getting younger, it's a huge gamble to hope he rebounds to even a 3rd line level for 3 more seasons. He has 12 points at 5v5 and we don't need him for the PP.

Carter may not be the perfect fit, but i think he will work fine for a year or two, if he can get healthy. I don’t think it’s that risky because the actual money he earns isn’t that much. He makes $7 mil in salary over the next three seasons, so as long as he’s playable or LTIR’ed then someone like the Senators who need a cap hit would take him.
