What I think Fenton will try to do this offseason

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 27, 2019
Published: Mar. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If only Seguin had made it to free agency... He would have been perfect for us.

Leipold said we will be spenders in free agency, and these are two of the bigger fish out there. Not a fan of going after Duchene and his curse, but I have a feeling Fenton will go after him given the fact Nashville has wanted him since he was available in Colorado. I would love Karlsson, however.

I think Fiala will get a deal similar to Arvidsson. Fiala is a lot less proven than Arvidsson was, so that's why the cap hit is the same with one less year.

Donato will probably get a "prove you can do it for 164 games" type deal. Same with JEE.

Draft selections: Kirby Dach (with Buffalo's pick) and Alex Turcotte (with our pick).

  1. 2019 1st round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Assuming this is not Hughes or Kakko and is around 5OA.
BUF
  1. Spurgeon, Jared
  2. Zucker, Jason
Additional Details:
I'd like to move Zucker and possibly Spurgeon at the draft for a good pick. Buffalo seems like a good suitor since they have two franchise players in Eichel and Dahlin along with some good complimentary players and a competent goalie. Adding these two would go a very long way to making the playoffs compared to a guy that probably won't play in the NHL next year.

Spurgeon signs an extension in this scenario.

  1. 2019 3rd round pick (ARI)
ARI

I like EK signing when he would be with Brodin who is really underrated defensive defenceman. Also dont you think that Edmonton would trade Puljujarvi for JEK? That would make sense for both teams. EDM gets 3C and Wild talented RW.

Flyers offer Gudas, pick 13, 2020 2nd, and Ratcliffe for Spurgeon and Pateryn.

I agree with all of that IF we sign a center and/or draft one in the first round. Otherwise, JEE is really our only young quality center so we couldn't afford to trade him. I like Brodin - Karlsson a ton as well since they really complement each other and they could handle 22-23 minutes per night pretty easily.

I'd definitely consider that, but I guess it depends if there's a guy available at 13 that we really like. I think if we manage to get Turcotte at 10/11 and Caulfield is still available at 13, that trade makes a ton of sense. I do still think we should try to land a pick in the top 10 using Spurgeon/Zucker, however.

I'll be interested to see who the Wild draft. Definitely need to swing for the fences with your picks in this draft. On a side note, do you think Boudreau gets fired?

Yes, I do, if I had to guess. I will say that it completely depends on if Leipold allows Fenton to do that because Bruce will be owed $4M next season whether he's fired or not. It sucks because I love the guy, he's on the radio all the time and he not only seems like a great guy, he also knows his **** and tells it like it is. No sugarcoating with him. If we are playing bad he won't come out and say all the things we're doing right, he'll mention everything we're doing wrong and need to improve on with accuracy. The reason I think hell be fired is because Fenton "inherited" him as his head coach so he'll want to bring in his guy. Most likely, that's our assistant coach Dean Evason who was the head coach in Milwaukee under the Poile and Fenton regime.

Edit: also, I could absolutely see a Fletcher and Boudreau reunion in Philly since I think that's what you're getting at. Philly fans should be extremely happy if that happens, Boudreau is the 2nd most winning coach of all time in the NHL but he's been extremely unlucky in the postseason.

Yup. I would absolutely love Boudreau as a second option if Q does not come here. I remember watching his Ducks coached teams and they seemed so organized and fun to watch.

Yeah no way Buffalo gives up the 5th pick for 2 guys on the wrong side of 25.

If Minnesota can Get Turcotte and Caufield in the draft I would love to those players in a wild sweater and I love Karlsson Sigings but I’m still Skeptical of Duchene because it seem losing follows him everywhere

I'm not saying they would. The premise of this post is what I think Fenton will try to do, hence the title. Buffalo seems like a fit for these two but trading them for a high pick doesn't necessarily mean it has to be to Buffalo. My comment on the trade was more explaining why Zucker and Spurgeon could be good targets for Buffalo rather than a trade itself. A more realistic trade would be something like the 10 OA pick and Zucker for the 5 OA pick from Buffalo.

Agree completely, I just think Fenton will attempt to go after Duchene. I'd be extremely happy with Turcotte and Caulfield.

I would love to Caulfield on the team he’s 52 goals in 53 games in the USA development program
