Caps won't get two 1sts for Holtby in the summer of 2020, he's a UFA that summer. CGY can just wait to talk to him July 1st. At best Caps could get a 2nd for his rights so CGY could talk to him before anyone else, but probably a 3rd round pick.

BUT they should trade Holtby to CGY this summer for 1st+2nd+Dube.

EDIT: I see you signed Holtby first then traded him but no way does that happen. I don't think that's ever happened. Now MAYBE Caps could get one first from CGY if CGY and Holtby are allowed to talk about a 8 year contract so we sign him to that then trade him there.

Also, Pilon looks like he could be a good player. Immense skill. Throwing him to a rival for a 5th would be a terrible deal. I see him as Eller's replacement in a couple years.

I think you are 100% right on Holtby. This summer may be the play...who knows though.

I doubt they do, but it would be so smart to do it. And I love Holtby, but Caps have to start building for the future and take some chances.
