Than trade Schultz for an actually decent return, why give him away? He's a top 4 d-man

It’s obviously for the Hershey Bears and maybe as a call up if we have injuries. Look at the minors salary, that’s where they’re planning him to go.

Johansen is not an NHL calibre defenseman, and is behind Fehervary and Alexeyev on the depth chart. I'd also say Jensen is worth way more than a 5th round pick.

Absolutely, he was really good last season and is low enough at 2.5 mil and cost controlled for two more seasons. If we're moving another d-man it'll be Kempny or Schultz before Jensen I'd say.

You think Ovi's contract really matters that much to us though? Yeah it's not great, but he keeps his current cap hit and I could care less tbh if it's good or not, he's staying

Looking at the contract alone without considering the significance of the player, the term is a year or two long but I mean come on, it's Ovi, how could you not like that contract as a Caps fan

Kutznetsov is a CAP DUMP.
Washington is under no such delusions. He will be sold cheap, very cheap. They want out of Kutznetsov stocks.
I mean @7.8 mil per!!!

Boom Just like that
Caps are not retaining on Oshie's contract for four years while taking on a larger contract as well. There's no space to begin with. Also, for the time being, Oshie is producing as much as Nylander, and although he'll regress soon, they will still take his heart and soul-type play even if the points begin to decline.

Never said he was bad, just hasn't been as good as Schultz/Jensen, plus he's got a Seattle connection playing with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL, and that's close to home for him. It would make sense in that regard too. But all of that is speculation

Jensen has been on the 3rd pair with Chara while Schultz has been with Dillon. Much rather move Dillon than anyone, as he has pretty much the same cap hit as Schultz, but has not been as good. Dillon could be picked up by Seattle though

Schultz has been awesome for the caps this year, why would we trade him? And for a 4th nonetheless? He's been offensively productive and would have greater value than that, even if they did trade him. But the caps are still contending, so why trade a top 4 d-man for a 4th

You think you have that many prospects right now that are locks to play consistently in the NHL??? I'd say only a couple of the guys from tier 3 are a lock whatsoever to play consistent NHL time. I mean how is Tarnstrom, a 3rd round pick from the 2020 draft, or Cuylle, a late 2nd rounder from the 2020 draft a lock to play in the NHL lol

I mean coach Andre Tourigny has literally said that their play has made it tough for him to break them up in the future, and they have played consistently 5 on 5 during the scrimmages. SportsCenter has also labelled them "Team Canada's Super Line" during one of their world juniors preview show. I'd think they're pretty much a lock to play together. Zary - Byfield - Tomasino is most likely an insanely good 2nd line.

Team Canada WJC roster finally
The first line has pretty much been decided from their play in the exhibition games with McMichael - Cozens - Dach on the first line, then Byfield centering the 2nd line. Also Harley and Schneider have been a pair throughout the exhibition games as well, so they're probably together, then most likely Byram and Drysdale.

Tom Wilson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lyle_Bubas</b></div><div>are you like 65 years old what, fashion shows with nylander?
Nylander is an elite playmaking winger who's got a deadly wrist shot. He has more career goals and points than wilson does in 215 less games.
Wilson is a bruiser who is a career minus in the playoffs who prior to the cup win was completely invisible and useless for offence.
<img class="for_img" src="https://i.gyazo.com/d1bbeeece9cbd90d1511bdc1ce8b3d57.png" alt="d1bbeeece9cbd90d1511bdc1ce8b3d57.png">
Since he's got his cup his "playoff clutchness" hasn't gotten his team out of the first round
Wilson's a solid player, and I'd love him on the team, but he's overpaid as hell and is way less useful than an elite winger like nylander</div></div>
Yup of course Nylander has more career goals and points than Wilson in many less games, that's not Wilson's primary role. It's just like saying, Wilson has 20x more hits than Nylander in his career (a true stat), so he's better. That stat is also true, but that's not Nylander's game. (And btw I'm not even saying anything close to that Wilson is a more valuable or better player)
"Wilson is a career minus in the playoffs" he's -1 don't act like he's -30
I love that you purposely cut out his recent playoffs in that image to make it seem like he hasn't improved from when he was 20-23 years old and just playing a 4th line role lol.
Overpaid? Really? If anything underpaid, on pace for 25 goals and 53 points (over a full season in 19-20) while being such a unique and physical player in the league.
I'm not agreeing with the trade or anything, but don't exaggerate or willfully ignore particular details to make your point seem more logical, because it's so glaringly obvious for those that are informed enough to see through that bull****.

WASH WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS
Some things I'll argue you on:
Samsonov already began skating three weeks ago and is back to practicing, the team knows the degree of the injury, in that he is 100% and it's healed already.
Kuznetsov had 52 points in 63 games in a down year. Unless he gets injured, I don't see how he could ever get less than 50 points, given he always plays on the first PP and plays with Ovi half the time. If the season is limited to 60ish games, maybe in the 50s.
Ovi is one season off of yet another 50+ goal pace (if a full season had happened), and you predict a potential 18 goal season? I don't think he's really a wildcard, maybe he regresses a BIT in goals, but you think he'll go from 48 to potentially not even 20?
I don't know where you are getting that Orlov is a liability... he isn't at all
I'm not even going to bother arguing about your Wilson comment... I understand hatred for Wilson as a player given his history but if you deny his skill and power forward ability in the top 6 you obviously don't know enough about hockey
One year of age does not bring this team from first in their division to missing the playoffs lol. Multiple years away from that imo. Now if you were to say 'if this team doesn't get younger than in 2/3 years they will be a bottom 10 team' I might agree with that statement more
