It seems some people have an opion that the leafs need to improve their defence through trading core assets and that is a fair assessment. However there is other options they just take longer. It would be wise for the Leafs and fans not to panic even if its a short playoffs. Drafting and development of players has worked out amazingly well for this current leafs team and there is help coming in that reguard. Its going to be a very interesting offseason for the leafs due to the cap concerns. Its really going to be hard to find money for Johnson and kappanen after Marner gets paid. Woth that being said i like the edmonton trade posted above. Edmonton get a 20 g scorer that cam skate as fast as Mcdavid and can play on his wing and TO gets a physical rhd they need. Obviously there would more then just a player for player deal. But for me there is a potential deal there that helps both teams

I think both Carolina and Edmonton need forwards and for the right deal would give up the guys you suggest go to the leafs.

I prefer substituting Kadri for Kapenan and using Kadri money for Kapenan. 3 years 3-3.25 would be my guess.

I think you signings of Marner and Johnsson are high.

Marner 6 x 10.5 or 3 x 8.5
Johnsson 2 x 2.5 or 4 x 3.5

Upgrading Zaitsev with Larsson along with a 3rd is the incentive for the Leafs to trade Kapanen and Brown. This would be a cap deal.

So leafs get their number 1 RHD. Oilers get an overpriced 3rd D. I think something like Kap and Zaitzev is put together on its own. You are not getting any substantial back.
