Wild Trade

Team: 2016-17 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 6, 2016

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
At Hextall's post-season press conference he stated his top two priorities were to 1) Sign Gudas long-term. 2) Bolster the forward depth without hand-cuffing future plans.
When asked specifically about Schenn, he was non-committal.
Here, Schenn and Schultz are traded to MN for Brodin, Zucker and Vanek.
Brodin gives Philly a young defensive defensemen who can play the right side along Del Zotto, Ghost or Provorov. Brodin is a big upgrade from the likes of Streit, AMac and Gudas and gives Hextall flexibility to trade Del Zotto or a prospect if he can't move Streit or AMac.
Adding Vanek and Zucker along the left wing gives Philly two quality lines while letting Leier and Aube-Kubel develop in the AHL.
None of Vanek's salary is retained as Schultz goes to MN.
Summer of 2017 Hextall has more than 26 mil to sign Ghost, 2 goalies and 4 forward spots.

That trade is horrible for Minnesota. Would never happen.

Isn't Schenn a wing that tries to play centre once in awhile? Wild have enough of those. No real interest in Schultz from the Wild.

He's a center by nature, but Philly moved him to wing a year or two ago. He wouldn't be my first choice to trade for, but if CF can't pull a deal for a true #1 center, at least you could plug Schenn into a #2 role. Plus he fits into CF's plan of getting bigger, he's not afraid to shoot or drop the gloves. Schultz doesn't interest me either, but I'd rather pay him for one year to be a 6/7 D than pay Vanek for two to go away.

Like Wabit, I ballpark these things. If a pick(s) is needed to balance it out, so be it.

Even with Vinny's contract coming off the books I think that puts the Flyers over the cap due to performance bonuses unless they are allowed to carry it over to the following year. Also, I doubt MIN would do that trade, but I wouldn't mind it I guess but I think Schenn in the top 6 needs to be a priority especially since they are not going to retain Vanek after he leaves the following year. That means they have Zucker, Raffl, Leir, and Laughts to play LW which doesn't line up with Hexy's idea of building forward depth. They need to be more competitive sooner unless they land some solid young top six talent because G, Jake, and Wayne aren't getting any younger.

If they send AMac back to the minors how does that effect their cap?

Picks still wouldn't make it close. Schultz is washed up and Zucker and Brodin worth more than Schenn.
