Nucks 2016-17

Created by: Nucks33
Team: 2016-17 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2016
Published: Jun. 8, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Playoffs without risking the future. Considers expansion draft as well (players we may have to debate protecting) for the trades undertaken

1. Edler to Ottawa for a first rounder. Ottawa is not in a rebuild but needs to strengthen their team, particularly D. Edler and Karlsson played very well together at the worlds. Also, given their lack of depth they can protect him and not get hurt in expansion. The Nucks will have to protect Tanev, Gubradson, and likely Hutton, they don't have room to protect Edler - he will have to waive this year or end up in Vegas. May have to add to get the first but I doubt it. Edler is worth a first given his contract and ability. He is a top pairing Dman.

2. Burrows moved for cap space and can help a team like the Isles with his leadership. The pick is late and perhaps the Nucks retain 25% of the cap.

3. Resign Hamhuis at a home down discount for 3 years.

4. Sign Lucic and Eriksson

5. Draft Dubois at #5 or Tkatchuk whomever remains and keep them in Junior

6. At 12 (Ottawa pick) take Jost, Fabro, Bean, or McAvoy whomever is rated higher. Assuming of course all of the big 3 d men are gone.

Future D enhanced, future forwards enhanced, and with the trades and signings we are playoff team. Also gives Baer/Bo/Virtanen a less responsible role (3rd line) and a chance to develop without pressure.

Erikkson would have already signed a contract with Bos if he was that cheap. Speculation says hes looking for 6x6 and the Bruins would only go 6x4.

No chance anyone offers a 30 yr old 6x6 and I offered 4x5 so adding an extra year might get it done. Hamhuis takes a bit less, give Erikson a bit more (ie 5.5). Chance to play with the Sedins could be enticing for him given how he's played with them internationally. That would be 24 mil Boston offer vs 28 mil Canucks at 5.5...hard to say no to an extra 3 mil.

No chance in hell Edler gets you that high of first rounder. MAYBE a 26-30 pick. What do you mean Ottawa has a lack of depth? They have Methot and Phaneuf along with Chabot. Why would they even want Edler? In an expansion Ottawa would protect Karlsson, Methot, Ceci, and maybe Phaneuf. Also no way Hamhuis signs for that cheap, he could get 4.5-5.5 on the UFA market. Doubt Erikkson signs for under 6mil per.

Edler needs a change of scenery but I just cant see him fetching 12th overall let alone a 1st round pick. Would have to waive his NTC first. Maybe a high 2nd rounder at this point
