Realistic Retool

Created by: dgfresh78
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2019
Published: May 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I feel like lots of people don't understand the true definition of a retool and what goes on during it. The Penguins have a great core and there's no reason to jeopardize that by trading Letang, Malkin, or Kessel.

Wow, I think you need to review some of these trades:

Ottawa is in rebuild mode. While it may be possible to convince them to take JJ as a cap dump, it probably requires a better prospect and/or a high draft pick.

Not sure why Nashville would give up Sissions plus a pick when they could just try to resign Simmonds - Similar money, simliar player. And I'm pretty sure they'd rather just resign Sissions with that money rather than get Hornqvist.

Coyotes don't need another 2nd pair Dman, doubly so if it would cost them a pick.

Pretty sure the Wild would jump on that trade... but why do the Pens trade Hornqvist then trade a bunch of assets to get a similar player/contract back?

Huge overpay for Pettersson. Sure, he looked pretty good this year, but this was still his first full season. He doesn't have arbitration rights, so a 2-3 year deal makes more sense, plus he's still a RFA afterwards, which is good for the Pens.
