There are different types of pdo. Good teams tend to be a bit higher than 100, and it is sustainable.

Teams like the islanders have unsustainable PDO and are due to regress, like the leafs run. In 2013

The 2013 leafs were garbage. And given that the isles won a round and the leafs (2013, 2017, 2018, 2019) didn’t, I take that the Isles aren’t garbage

This is a bad take then.
They were carried by unreasonably hot goaltending and weird career years from random guys.
They are just as **** as the 2013 leafs, and if your management makes the same mistake ours did.... Just hope there is another Nathan Horton out there.

Hot goaltending doesn’t span the entire season.

Nobody had career years either, outside of the netminders in their first season playing in a defense first system. Only Ryan Pulock I suppose, and he’s gonna be a Norris candidate for years to come.

James Reimer, 2012-13 season.
Yes sir it does

And check who your top scorers were for a minute. Last I checked Filppula was 8th

My apologies, I meant leading scorers and 'top players' when I said weird people having career years.
My bad.

Also, are we gonna ignore the whole goalies don't stay got for a year thing even though they obviously do?

Maybe goalies don’t stay hot for an entire season, but it’s not like Greiss nor Lehner are slouches. Greiss had a .925 in 2016 and Lehner had a .920 just two seasons ago. Greiss suffered problems at the hands of the awful defense in 2017 and Lehner suffered problems at the hands of himself. Both recovered and played to the potential they can.

I'm not saying that they are bad goalies, just that we shouldn't expect them to stay at a .930 next year. .915 would be much more reasonable, and once that is accounted for this team is not a playoff team, that is what PDO regression means in this case.

They are a playoff team cause they made the playoffs. That’s how this works. Also, the PDO argument is sorta weird cause they had the sixth most high danger chances in the NHL this year despite having a pretty rough offense. They take advantage of the good chances they get, and work for the good chances. They’ll make it back every year for the foreseeable future.
