Description
The Rangers need to do a few things this offseason. They need to draft correctly by going for Kakko and picking the right players. Their 2nd overall is easily Kakko or Hughes. I think trading up isn’t necessary but with our current roster, it seems like some players need to be moved. I think the remaining two picks go to defensemen or best player available. For the trades I think they’re simple but needed. Smith going to EDM to help with defensive depth. I don’t think he’s bad at all he just didn’t mesh well with NY after his first season. For the picks, as of now Dallas is one win away from the WCF and I think they win game 7. This would make their 2nd a first. Zuccarello is already a fan favorite so he will definitely be staying. Now the most controversial trade (Minnesota). I’m positive the Wild need depth in both areas and that’s where Pionk and Namestnikov can help. Pionk is a young pick moving defensemen that can easily score 20 points or more and quarterback back a power play unit. Namestnikov is a solid two way player that can play anywhere in the lineup and score 40+ points. Both players are young and valuable. Added with our 18th-20th 1 st rounder, I don’t see why Minnesota wouldn’t mind this trade. They’re a solid bubble team and with this trade it helps both teams in their current positions. For signings I think Buch gets around what he’s getting or more. They’ll want claesson as a 7th defenseman. Most of the Hartford guys don’t really need explanations. The big one would be Karlsson. I have a feeling he’d like to come to NY with Hank and his situation. I do also believe staying in SJ is a priority of his so I think this deal is possible but the Sharks have a good chance at a resign.

the rangers already came out and said they wouldn't be drafting a goalie in the first two rounds.. Knight is unnecessary with Shestyorkin + Gregoriev + Wall

Yes but I think he’s the best player around 20th. I see a lot of Mock drafts taking centers but we have so many young centers that i’d Rather take something different

I went off what SJ gave him. Definitely more of a 9 up player

this may be true, so trade down to a goalie needy team then. Goalies don't really retain value post draft, you wouldn't get the 20th next year if you picked him 20th this year

Why would the Oilers need Brendan Smith? They are looking to move defensemen of their own.

Let's see what happens Tuesday before we assume the Rangers grab the Dallas first rounder.

I feel as though that's a lot just to trade up 8 spots. Teams can still find value at 20 without giving up NHL players. If the stars win on Tuesday, maybe move the Dallas first and said players (although it makes little sense to trade 2019 picks for Namestnikov, because I assume Minnesota would only do this if he extends - this may be a trade done after the draft in July).

Karlsson wont take any thing less then the Doughty deal so 7 x 11 minimal some are suggesting he wants closer to 7 x 12.

If we have three firsts, spending one on Knight would be wise. Considering he's a few years away, that would put a lid on goaltending! Within 14 months, Georgiev will not be here if both he and Shesterkin pan out. Unless of course Hank retires or we buy him out next year. Either way, Knight fits like a glove! We're all a little giddy, but until they play and "dominate", they're maybes (stars, busts or backups). Btw its "Georgiev" (Georgie V) and "Shesterkin" (She's Twerkin) and Kaapo Kakko (double A, double K).

I like the trades but UFA contracts are AWFUL. Karlsson wants 3 years more than that, and 4 million dollars more than that.
Why would we sign Gilmour to a 4 year contract?!
Other than that, trades are good. Minnesota one seems worthwhile for both sides, although I think we could potentially move up for less
