I don't see how they can afford him, unless Holland has quite a few cap-dump tricks up his sleeve. Cap dumps can happen, but they tend to bleed the prospect/pick cupboard, something I'd rather he didn't do.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but was it not Holland who signed these deals in DET:
- Frans Neilsen: 6 years @ 5.25m
- Justin Abdelkator: 7 years @ 4.25m
- Darren Helm: 5 years @ 3.85m
- Danny DeKeyser: 6 years @ 5.0m
- Jonathan Ericsson: 6 years @ 4.25m

Just curious whom Edmonton will trade to afford Duchene? Matt Duchene is seeking 7 years $63 million and Edmonton has a few bodies to replace with little cap.

They just need to dump Russel, take $3M off for Russel ($4M hit minus $1M to replace) and they have $8.5M and an open roster spot so basically $9.25M which is workable

As it stands today they have $12M in cap space with 15 guys signed, remove just Russell and now you have $16M to fill 9 spots. If you figure $8M for Duchene that leaves $8M for another 8 guys, which isn't enough to get help in other areas.
