even with Kovalchuk I doubt LA would give up #5 for that little

All of these trades favor Detroit.

The only one I could see going through is the Carolina trade but that would require Evgeny playing at the same level before the ACL tear. Even if he is its still a long shot.

I'm assuming trading for Kovalchuk so he can play with Datsyuk. Take a look at Kovalchuk 36yrs old has 2yrs left @ $6.25M with a NMC. He had 34 points this season I don't see him getting much more than that in the next 2 seasons. Even if he does waive to go to Detroit (not very likely thank god) he still has a NMC and Detroit HAS TO PROTECT him in the up coming expansion draft. You can protect 7F 3D 1G or 8 skaters no matter the position. So who do you leave unprotected because Kovalchuk has to be protected? If you really think Datsyuk is coming back then I have some magic beans you might be interested in buying.
