Oh, I disagree. Why does any non playoff team give three assets for a one year rental?. Wings are a 100 times better off, non making the trade and keeping their assets. If Trouba signs with the Wings as a UFA, Wings have those assets. If Trouba resigns elsewhere, Wings have those three assets and Trouba money to spend on other players.

So not the wings.

Trouba is a top 10, likely top 5 RD in the league. When top players get traded at the TDL before UFA they get very large packages. Check out what Mark Stone, Duchene got or the like.

He should get more than say Kevin Hayes returned NYR. This is terrible value

Top RH D don't just grow on trees. Trouba is a USNDT kid and would sign with the red wings long term, I really don't think they are giving up that much (Bowey has not showed that much improvement and already have Hronik). Comparing to the Hamonic trade this would be a steal for the wings (I understand Hamonic was already locked up long term)

But then you have to find a team, a contending team that has 6m free cap space, if you are trading Trouba for futures. A contender, with free cap space, that needs a RHD and can afford to give up assets, now market for Trouba gets a lot smaller.
You're right about Hayes, but again only a few teams, true contenders do those type of trades at TDL. The Jets in past two TDLs trading two firsts, Lemieux , two first and fourth for Statsny and Hayes. So Jets just might want to keep Trouba as their rental instead of trading him.

trading Troubas rights here as he is a RFA, so saying keep him as your own rental makes no sense. He could bring in a larger package if he were signed long term, but just trading his rights from a place of weakness for the jets (because everyone knows he doesn't want to stay in winnipeg and they are tight on the cap) this is as good of a package as they can expect to get.
