Opening Night Roster

Created by: mdeason99
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2019
Published: Jun. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Probably the most likely roster with Trav and Hyman on the IR to start the season and some optimism with the how things are looking so far
-Give Marchment/Mikheyev/Bracco/Kivihalme all extended looks and return 2 of them to Marlies after 11 and 23 come back
-I expect Dubas to sign a RHD in free agency or trade a pick/prospect for one and also sign a 4th line C/W on a cheap deal like Ennis last year
-Sparks prove it year
-There's not a huge margin of error to stay under the cap but it's attainable
-Used Evolving Wild's projections for some guidance (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15E1qqh3OfHvvhbv_pICfKT7VR1jJEVhWQOyKviWLN54/edit#gid=707766415)

Yeah its probably 50/50 they bring him back and I know Dubas is a huge fan obviously so if they can get a decent number then why not...?

Kappy and johnsson turned those offers down in February.
Sparks already blew his prove it year.
Kiss Gardiner goodbye.
Leafs dont retain any of Marleau's salary while giving up Brown and a 4th.
And your cap problems aren't solved.
Try again.

maybe you missed it, but Sparks proved it last year, McElhinney is the answer
Gardiner no longer belongs, RD upgrade is the biggest need

-No they didn't, and AJ is arb eligible so he won't get anything over $2.5m and theres no chance Kap even touches anything over 3
-And your rookie year is not a prove it year, he's a cheap backup
-No
-That would be huge if they can not retain anything
-They can be 10% over the cap all summer so it's not an issue at all you, you can easily read up on the CBA to learn how it works
-This is solid enough

That's a dumb comment, he was a rookie goalie and barely played. He has 2 years left at a cheap number. You obviously 1) don't know how goalies work 2) don't know how Sparks ranks among backups relative to his cap hit. Gardiner does still belong, he is the most liked player on the team among players and is still a great d-man. It's not really about him, it's the cap hit he signs. And they are upgrading their RD either way.

Kappy wasn’t offered a deal, Johnsson was 2.1m x 2 and 2.6m x 4. So he is above that.

Sparks will be back and has done a ton of off season work to quiet his movement.

Gardiner is gone. The chances of him returning can just be rounded to 0%.

I agree about Sparks but it's literally been reported by every insider, McKenzie and Freidman said they are gonna try and it's 50/50

Neither trade is realistic. Zaitsev is not netting a 3rd round pick, and Marleau will have no desire to waive his NMC for Buffalo. Even if he did, Buffalo will want more than Brown to take Marleau's contract, even with 3 million retained. Teams willing to trade for Marleau aren't actually looking for Marleau the player, they want the incentives that Toronto will have to include in order to move Marleau's contract.

You obviously never coached a goalie in your life...there's a reason he "hardly played" and the fact that he is a rookie has nothing to do with it (Binnington is a rookie - see any difference tonight?)
Sparks routinely over committed and frequently lost the net. He has terrible stick technique routinely allowing five hole goals - in a league where that should not happen often, he was good for one per game
not a solid professional, so what do you prefer? inexpensive and losing or a more experienced (and better paid) player with proven results?

not enough cap space to upgrade 1st and 2nd pair RD and keep Gardiner (dude LD $14.5 million? get a calculator)
BTW opening night RD is making a loud sucking noise, that's the sound of a sinkhole collapsing - before Sparks allows another five hole goal
Webbles liked this.

You just batted 0 for 6 and told the umpire it was his fault. Congratulations
