Taylor Hall and Kyle Turris

Description
Big trade for Hall would make Calgary an instant contender. Hall being born in Calgary might help them to sign him to an extension, and I'm sure he'd love to turn-style the man he as traded for in Edmonton 5 times per year. Jersey gets a couple solid draft picks, top-4 dman, a good defensive prospect and a good character guy in Bennett who could still put it all together.

I think the Neal for Turris deal is something Calgary should think about. Both are players one year removed from successful seasons, after having bad years with a new team. Turris would suit Calgary's fast paced game better than Neal did and Neal has had success in Nashville before. Surrounding Turris with Hall and Tkachuk could definitely get him going.

I didn't go out and sign a goalie because I think Rittich is ready to be the starter. Gillies has had some good showing when he's been called up and its time to see what he is. These moves would leave Calgary with the cap space to get another goalie if Gillies struggles.

That's not the way trades go anymore, especially if the player isn't going to sign. Karlsson trade is a good example, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, Chris Tierney (young-ish depth forward), Dylan DeMelo (NHL defenseman), Josh Norris (good prospect) and Rudolfs Balcers (other prospect). Karlsson was 28 when he was traded, Hall would be the same. Karlsson had a few prior injuries, as did Hall. Both were nominees for the greatest award at their positions the year before (Karlsson - 2nd for Norris, Hall - won MVP). You would have a hard time arguing that Hall is a more valuable player than Karlsson. Defensemen always win out over wingers (which is how NJ got Hall in the 1st place).

So temper your expectations, because you're going to end up getting quantity as opposed to quality, even for star players.

Zero interest in TJ Brodie, Devils need help on D and that isn't it.

Hall for Bennet and Hanifin, maybe a pick / prospect too – assuming Hall extension.

I would argue that Hanifin is more valuable than Hall. 22 year-old top-4 defenseman with 4 years experience, elite potential and a 5-year contract at less than 5M, vs. a 27-year old winger with an injury history and one year left on his deal, set for a big pay raise.

Agreed, his value is definitely high, but if CGY thinks Hall could put them over the top they might consider it. I don't know enough about them to know what their window is exactly – 2-3 years? Longer?

Hall is also from Calgary I believe, maybe more likely to sign and extension on a championship caliber team in his home town.

Lol at that preds trade...

Neal: 31 years old; 6'3", 212 lbs; 4 years left at 5.75M; 25g, 44pts in 2017-18, 10-time 20-goal scorer with playoff experience
Turris: 29 years old; 6'1", 190 lbs; 5 years left at 6M; 16g, 51pts in 2017-18, 4-time 50-point player with limited playoff experience

Both players had difficult years with new teams (Neal - 7g, 12a, 19pts; Turris - 7g, 16a, 23pts). Neal had success in Nashville and Turris fits Calgary's roster better.

You're only convincing yourself that the preds want to do this deal, not anyone else. No one will touch the Neal contract unless they get something more. And Turris was dealing with injury for most of the year so I can give him a pass for his bad play this year at least (he was great for us the prior season) - I wouldn't want to trade him at his lowest value. And Turris plays a style that ages much better than Neal.

Rumors are going around that Turris may be on his way out, and would be a similar situation to Neal that they would have to give something to get rid of him. I don't think its too much of a stretch that Nashville would look at a known commodity in Neal who has had success with them before and decide to make that move.

They would after the season he had. And if they do trade Turris, it is only to save money. No money saved with this trade.
